Honeycomb Board
Packaging
One material, the whole packaging system. Pallets, crates, edge protectors, layer pads, fitments and void fill — all engineered from kraft honeycomb board that is up to 80% lighter than wood, ISPM-15 exempt everywhere, and recyclable at the other end.
The packaging system
Structure carries the load; cushioning protects the product. We specify the two jobs separately, then build both from the same board.
What it does to the invoice
Who it is built for
Electronics and equipment exporters — crates and die-cut fitments that hold the product still and absorb shock, paired with your ESD inner packaging. Furniture makers — edge and corner protection that stops the claims that come from strapping and stack compression. Automotive and white-goods lines — dimensionally consistent layer pads and dunnage that keep automated lines running. Freight forwarders and 3PLs — ~5kg pallets that clear any border without a stamp.
Each application has its own article in our Story section — from furniture damage claims to electronics shock and ESD.
A packaging review — illustrative
Suppose a white-goods manufacturer ships washing machines on wooden pallets with foam corner blocks, plastic strapping and a polystyrene top cap. Four materials, three disposal streams, and an EPR bill that grows every year.
The review swaps the pallet for a 5kg honeycomb unit, the foam corners for honeycomb edge protectors, and the top cap for a honeycomb layer pad. Everything except the strap is now one recyclable material, the tare weight per unit drops by close to 20kg, and the stack-compression damage that drove most of the claims stops at the corner posts instead of the product.
Honeycomb packaging questions
What is honeycomb board packaging?
Honeycomb board packaging is protective and transport packaging made from paper honeycomb — kraft paper formed into hexagonal cells and laminated between flat liners. It covers pallets, boxes and crates, edge and corner protectors, layer pads, die-cut fitments and cushioning blocks, all engineered from the same material.
Why use honeycomb board instead of wood, foam or plastic packaging?
Three reasons that show up on invoices: it is up to 80% lighter than the timber it replaces, so freight costs fall; it is ISPM-15 exempt, so export shipments need no fumigation or stamps; and it is mono-material kraft paper, so it recycles in the ordinary paper stream and sits in the lowest EPR fee bands.
Is honeycomb packaging strong enough for heavy machinery?
Yes, when engineered for it. Load capacity is set by core thickness, cell size and paper grade, and structural elements such as corner posts and frames carry stack weight through the packaging rather than the product. Engineered panels handle compression around 12kN; crate and pallet builds are specified from your cargo weight and dimensions.
Can honeycomb packaging be customised?
Everything phb makes is produced to specification: footprint and dimensions, deck and wall thickness, cell size, die-cut fitment shapes, moisture-resistant coatings and printed kraft liners. Send the cargo details and our engineers return a specification and quote.
Where is honeycomb board packaging made in Malaysia?
phb (Quinocycle Sdn Bhd) manufactures in Balakong, Selangor, and delivers across the Klang Valley and nationwide, with export via Port Klang and KLIA to any country. Contact +6016-891 6381 or sales@quinocycle.com.
